We are going up!

I’m not going to lie to you, when Hednesford scored their second goal at the start of the second half of extra-time, I thought it was all over. Then, out of nowhere, Ben Adelsbury hits wonder strike from 30+ yards out, and somehow it goes in! I and my fellow travelling SCFC supporters are celebrating madly, and now we only have 2 mins to hold out. The last kick of the game and the Hednesford player skies it. Penalties to come. The first penalty is scored by the Hednesford player, a well-struck penalty. Stuart Anderson’s strike went just underneath the keeper Dan Crane, and then Hednesford get a lucky goal when their poor penalty sneaks its way through Tommy Smith. Matt Wright steps up for the Whites but puts it wide.  Not that I’m complaining about the miss, after all Wrighty scored a fantastic goal to send it to extra-time just 30 mins before. Hednesford’s penalty strikes the bar and flies out of the ground. A confident strike from Ben Adelsbury levels it up; he had a great game. Tommy Smith then saves a very poor penalty and then Ben Joyce steps up and scores an inch perfect penalty that puts the Whites back in the shoot-out. Tommy Smith with all the pressure on his back saves an awful penalty, that puts Salisbury in the Blue Square Bet South next season.

The emotion that I experienced after that goal went in was incredible. I joined the hundreds of SCFC fans running onto the pitch to congratulate the Darrell, Mikey and the players who have put in a season that went right down to the wire.

Time well spent.
